Diary Entries

August 9, 2025

A lot of the time, the most random of memories will just pop into my head. Things that I haven't thought about in years, or even months. Then, before I know it, the memory is gone just as quickly as it came into my head. I was thinking about my childhood this time around. I can't say my childhood was a particularly perfect one, but it had it's nice moments. Certain memories, seasons and time of days just stick with me for some reason. I remember after having ordered Twilight Princess on eBay back in 2014, I waited eagerly for it to arrive. It was springtime. The balcony door was always left open during sunset and sunrise because my mom liked the breeze. The game was delievered to my grandma's house since they were less likely to steal my package that way. (I lived in an apartment complex with notorious package thieves back in those days lol.)

I don't even know how I remember the drive over to my grandma's house. I just do, because I remember thinking to myself how beautiful the sky looked. The spring sun is so vibrant and pretty from where I come from. I remember the smell of the air, and how it just felt pure. I can't even tell you what happened at my grandma's house, or what happened the day before and after. My memory blotches itself out past or before - that point. I remember popping the disc into my Gamecube and playing through that gorgeous opening sequence where Link's mentor (I forget the guy's name) asks Link if he can feel the sorrow that lingers in the air during Twilight. How that means there's another side to their reality - a darker one - where they don't have the fortune to be basked in the light as him and everyone else on their side.

It's a gorgeous start to a rather melancholic game. And it beautifully correlated well with the time of day I first began playing: a spring evening's twilight, with the breeze of nature's breath hitting me quite literally from every direction. Those were good times. I miss how little things like that used to bring me so much pleasure.
